Road safety initiative

Safer School Zones

Safe Steps to School — Creating safer journeys for children

RACJ is working to make every journey to school a safer one. Through a two-year project funded by the FIA Foundation and implemented in partnership with the Greater Amman Municipality and Greater Jerash Municipality, we are working to create safer school zones and improve the streets surrounding selected schools in Amman and Jerash.

Using the iRAP Star Rating for Schools (SR4S) methodology, RACJ will assess road safety conditions around selected schools to identify risks and areas requiring improvement. Based on the assessment findings, RACJ will then oversee and implement the necessary infrastructure improvements, which may include safer pedestrian crossings, road markings, signage, traffic-calming measures, and other interventions tailored to the needs of each school.

By combining assessment with tangible infrastructure improvements, local partnerships, and community awareness, RACJ aims to create safer, more child-friendly school environments and establish a sustainable model that can be replicated across Jordan.

Road Safety Ambassadors Clubs

Young ambassadors for safer roads

RACJ engages schoolchildren in interactive road safety training that combines learning with hands-on experience. Using driving simulators and practical activities, children learn about traffic rules, pedestrian safety, and responsible road behavior in an engaging and memorable way. The program encourages participants to share what they learn and become young ambassadors for safer roads within their schools, families, and communities.

SR4S & Capacity Building

Practical expertise for safer school zones

RACJ supports local road safety capacity through training on iRAP’s Star Rating for Schools (SR4S) methodology. The program equips engineers, practitioners, and relevant stakeholders with the knowledge and practical tools to assess road safety risks around schools, identify necessary improvements, and support the development of safer school zones and safer journeys for children.

Road Safety Education

Learning through creativity and experience

As part of RACJ’s leadership in promoting road safety in Jordan, the Club engages children through creative and interactive educational activities held on its premises. Art workshops, collaborative painting, chalk drawing, games, driving simulators, VR experiences, and other hands-on activities introduce road safety concepts through play and creativity. By making learning enjoyable and memorable, RACJ aims to build road safety awareness from an early age and encourage a new generation of safer and more responsible road users.

Awareness & Community Engagement

Safer choices through shared responsibility

RACJ uses creative awareness campaigns and community engagement to make road safety relevant and accessible to everyone. These initiatives combine storytelling, youth voices, digital and traditional media, influencer engagement, and community activities to promote safer behavior and shared responsibility on the road. Through campaigns, events, partnerships, and direct public engagement, RACJ continues to strengthen road safety awareness and encourage safer choices across Jordan.

Reducing our footprint. Investing in cleaner energy.

RACJ is committed to reducing its environmental footprint and creating a greener, more sustainable future. The Club’s photovoltaic solar station supports the shift toward clean energy and earned international recognition through the FIA President’s Award for Climate Action.

Sustainability is also part of everyday life at the Club. RACJ promotes recycling and water reuse, plants approximately 600 trees every year, and protects mature trees that have been part of the Club’s landscape for nearly 50 years.

These efforts also help preserve local biodiversity. RACJ’s green grounds provide a natural habitat for local wildlife, including a resident family of Husseini foxes.

From renewable energy and responsible water use to recycling, tree planting, and biodiversity protection, RACJ continues to turn its environmental commitment into practical action.

Preserving our motoring heritage

Mobility is also about preserving where we came from.

In partnership with the Royal Automobile Museum of Jordan, RACJ works to preserve, celebrate and promote Jordan’s motoring heritage, supporting the recognition and appreciation of historic and classic vehicles while connecting Jordan to the international historic vehicle community through FIVA.
